The educator honor society I’m in at college is called KDP. Shoutout to those who are part of this great organization! KDP has a magazine publication and periodically, they invite members to volunteer to write an article for it. Even though I’m a good writer, there are always better writers and although most times I get excellent feedback, I’ve also had writing that needed many revisions. I am not a stranger to professional writing, but because this is a professional honor society, they do have specific guidelines to follow. I have always wanted to contribute to a professional publication, especially within education. It only seems befitting since I am an educator, right? I get to share information and write about what I love. I can add it to my resume or use it as a talking point (Oh you know I’m famous, I just had my article published in an academic magazine…” lol) I’m so dramatic at times. Not only that, but even though I know I’m a good writer, being accepted confirms that fact. It is a good feeling to be chosen out of many and makes me feel like my writing is worth something and encourages me to strive for more.😊 Needless to say, I decided to give it a try, as I’ve done in many similar situations, knowing that I’m talented but still doubting whether or not my work would be accepted or view in the same way. I followed the guidelines as best as I could (it seemed easy enough) and I hastily submitted it 10 minutes before the midnight deadline….talk about procrastination. Come on, don’t leave me hangin’… you know you’re a fellow procrastinator (I’m working on it, I’m doing better). They typically take about 6 weeks to reply…Oh Lord, the torture! Luckily, I am so busy the time ran off and I almost forgot about it when I received an email from the editor that they have accepted my article! They can either accept your article after making major revisions that they give you or minor revisions. I was accepted with no revisions, NO REVISIONS! Ok, I digress 😊. I was so sure that I would be accepted with at least a few revisions. I even asked if my article was okay because I did not see any edits or revisions. He said that as long as I was happy with it, it was good to go. I was given a two page limit so I was limited in what I could write but I have included my article below to share with you. Hope you enjoy!
